Five days to outlast what's chasing you
Mara is the force in Buddhist cosmology that shows up right before a breakthrough — not as a monster, but as distraction, anxiety, and the sense that the ground keeps shifting. Mara Roast Europe spends five straight days building the opposite of that: a real refuge, a trained mind, a clear map of how suffering actually works, and — at the center of the week — a complete transmission built around the Buddha of Boundless Life.
This isn't a lecture series. It's refuge, then training, then the view, then the transmission, then the room opened up for whatever you're still sitting on.
- Day 1 · Refuge
Turning toward what's genuine and liberating — the inner anchor everything else in the week builds on.
- Day 2 · Mindfulness
The Four Foundations of Mindfulness (Satipatthana) — training awareness from the body on up.
- Day 3 · Interdependence
The Twelve Links of Dependent Origination — the causal chain of samsara, and where it breaks.
- Day 4 · Empowerment
Amitayus, Buddha of Boundless Life, from the Chikshe Kundrol cycle of the 9th Karmapa.
- Day 5 · Open Dharma
Visualization beyond sight, then an open Q&A — bring the question you've been sitting on.
No hedging here: flying Lama Chris to Croatia and holding the venue for five days costs money, and the program fee is what covers it — the same for everyone, not inflated for whoever can pay more.
The teachings and the empowerment are also offered in the spirit of dana, traditional Buddhist generosity: if the program fee is genuinely out of reach, the supported rate exists so that isn't what keeps you out of the room. And if you're able to give more than the fee, an additional offering to Lama Chris is always welcome — that's between you and him, not a requirement to attend.

Refuge: Meaning and Importance
LAMA CHRIS CHRISTODOULIDIS · KAŠTELA + ONLINE, LIVE & RECORDED
Taking Refuge in the Three Jewels — the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha — isn't a retreat from reality or an act of blind faith. In a world of impermanence, anxiety, and confusion, refuge provides an inner anchor: it shifts your primary identity from reactive habit to a seeker aligned with wisdom and compassion. This opens the week and everything else builds on it.

The Twelve Links of Interdependence (Pratītyasamutpāda)
LAMA CHRIS CHRISTODOULIDIS · KAŠTELA + ONLINE, LIVE & RECORDED
The Twelve Links of Dependent Origination map the causal chain that keeps beings bound to samsara — and show precisely where that chain can be broken. Understanding how it operates is what lets mindfulness and wisdom actually intervene.

Amitayus Empowerment from Chikse Kundrol
LAMA CHRIS CHRISTODOULIDIS · KAŠTELA + ONLINE, LIVE & RECORDED
The precious empowerment of Amitayus (Tsepakmé), the Buddha of Boundless Life, bestowed from the Chikshe Kundrol ("Knowing One Liberates All") cycle compiled by the 9th Karmapa Wangchuk Dorje. Amitayus — the sambhogakaya aspect of Amitabha — is associated with longevity, the removal of obstacles to life, and the nectar of immortality. This empowerment establishes the connection to engage in the related meditation and long-life practices. The center of the week.

Visualization Beyond Sight — Dharma Talk & Open Q&A
LAMA CHRIS CHRISTODOULIDIS · KAŠTELA + ONLINE, LIVE & RECORDED
Visualization is often taught as mental imagery, but that's not the whole of it — for non-visual practitioners (aphantasia) or for a deeper meditative depth, visualization engages all the senses, not just sight. The week closes with an open Dharma talk and Q&A: let's sit down and talk about things Dharma.

Kaštel Kambelovac, Croatia
- Nearest airport: Split Airport (SPU) is the closest major airport, roughly 25–35 minutes from Kaštela by car or taxi depending on traffic.
- Getting from Split: Kaštela sits between Split and Trogir along the coast — a rental car or taxi is the most reliable option; regional buses also run the route.
- Driving: confirm parking directly with Lama Chris ahead of the day you're attending in person.
- Last-minute confusion: email Lama Chris — better a quick "where exactly is this" than a missed session.
If you're flying in for the week
Where you are
Kaštela is a string of coastal towns on Croatia's Dalmatian coast, between Split's old Roman core and the UNESCO town of Trogir — both worth a half-day each if you have one.
Weather
Late October on the Adriatic is shoulder season — mild, cooling, with swimming mostly done for the year. Pack layers and something for the evenings.
Getting around
A rental car makes exploring the coast easiest; Split's old town and the ferries out to the islands are both manageable as a day trip if you arrive a day or two early.
Any confusion
Email Lama Chris directly — he's the best source for exact logistics once your dates are confirmed.
